CLIMATE CHANGE - HEAT WAVE

FACTS: Textile factories around the world use approximately 8,000 different chemical dyes during the production process of man-made fabrics. During this process, toxic chemicals are released into the atmosphere, resulting in greenhouse gases - specifically carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane, which are then trapped and released at infrared wavelengths - heat waves.

DEFINITION: During the greenhouse effect, heat that is released by the sun, warms the earth’s surface, in exchange for the earth’s radiation. During the greenhouse effect, the earth’s radiation, released at infrared wavelengths is sent back into the atmosphere, trapping more heat.

This process has a major effect on the earth's climate system, resulting in global warming - increased droughts, severe storms, rising sea levels, and loss of species and crops (inadequate food supply).

SOLUTIONS: Domino Effect Theory. As a consumer, shifting your shopping habits toward eco-friendly brands, you are creating demand within the industry for more eco-friendly products - allowing corporations that manufacture man-made products to shift their process into a more sustainable production. This will cause a significant change not only within the industry but the economy as well - eliminating toxic chemicals will decrease the amount of pollution released into the environment, which will result in a decrease in climate change.
